With the recent merger of the Scranton and Stamford, there are once more similarities between the two series. In the BBC version, the merger of the Swindon branch into Slough brought to the mockumentary new characters and awkward situations.
In the episode “The Convict” (US), we all experienced what we’d anticipated from the minute we saw Martin Nash walk into the room. However, while Michael dealt with a black white-collar ex-convict, David Brent had a new black guy AND a woman in a wheelchair when the UK branches merged. We have seen Michael interact with Billy (the wheelchair guy properties manager).
